Network Configuration Information:
| Some systems and network devices require configuration before they will allow incoming connections. The following pages offer information with some common hardware and software issues: |
| |
| Airport Base Station |
|
Please perform the following in order:
- Open the Airport Admin Utility (usually found in the /Applications/Utilities of your OS X partition), select your base station, and click on the 'Configure' button
- Click the network tab, and increase the DHCP lease value to at least '30' days (we have our Airport set to 365 days); this prevents the need to constantly reset the
mapped IP address (see below for more information)
- Click on the 'Update' button (lower right of window) and wait for the base station to restart
- ** These steps will make the remaining configuration easier to work with...
- Launch SquidCam
- Under the 'Conference' menu, select 'IP Addresses...'
- Write down the IP address in the 'Local IP Address' field
- ** We'll use this IP for your port mapping setup
- Once again, launch the Airport Admin Utility, select your base station and 'Configure'
- Select the 'Port Mapping' pane
- Click on the 'Add' button
- For both 'Public Port' and 'Private Port', enter '16969' (no quotes); for the 'Private Address', complete the address with the IP address you obtained from SquidCam
- Click 'Update' once again and your base station will reboot with the new settings
This will ensure that all packets arriving on port '16969' (both
TCP and UDP packets) are forwarded to your system.
Regarding other NAT-based devices: Many NAT/DHCP devices have a similar configuration to the Airport. While the directions above won't be exactly the same,
the overall goal (mapping a port to a system on the local network) is the same.

| Linksys Routers |
|
The manual for each router is available from the
Linksys website. The manual for the BEFSR-41 can be
downloaded here.
- Obtain your IP address via SquidCam
- Launch SquidCam
- select the 'IP Addresses...' menu option under the 'Conference' menu
- write down the contents of the 'Local' field
- Access your router through the web interface provided (p47 of the manual, use
http://192.168.1.1 in a web browser)
- Select the Port Forwarding screen and find an unused line to enter data
- Enter 'SquidCam' in the name field
- Enter '16967' and '16969' for the range values; this will allow packets within this port range to be
forwarded to the system you're setting up; this is the default port range used by SquidCam
- Select both TCP and UDP
- Enter the IP address of the system you wish to receive calls
- Check the 'Enable' checkbox so that the new rule you've setup is active
- Click on the 'Apply' button

| Port forwarding for the D-Link DI-754 |
|
The manual can be found here.
- Obtain your IP address via SquidCam
- Launch SquidCam
- select the 'IP Addresses...' menu option under the 'Conference' menu
- write down the contents of the 'Local' field

- Click on the 'DHCP' button (left side) and then the 'Home' tab and you will be presented with
a set of options, one is the DHCP lease menu
- Select the highest value and click on the 'Apply' button
(This will ensure that the IP address isn't changed very often, making port forwarding difficult)
- Enter the configuration setup using your web browser
- Click on the 'Virtrual Server' button (left side) and then the 'Advanced' tab. This is where you will setup port fowarding.
- Click on the 'Enabled' button
- In the name field, type 'SquidCam'
